Project Descriptions:
This project is representative of the work done by Archiments, Inc, a small, residential focused design firm. In addition to learning wood-frame construction techniques and coordinating with structural engineers, challenges at this firm included moving the firm from a paper-based to computer-based system using a new type of drafting software called Spirit. I produced all construction drawings and details for a series of additions, renovations, and new construction on tight budgets.

Project Description:
Each year JPMorgan Chase sponsors a housing design and finance competition for schools in the surrounding area. The individual teams are responsible for finding a project and proposing a solution including finances, design, and community support. Our team included members from the real estate, urban planning, archtiecture, and business programs.

The project we selected was a low-income housing project being developed by the Urban Initiatives Development Corporation (UIDC), and its affiliate the Bridgeport Housing Authority (BHA) on an empty site in an existing neighborhood. At the time of the competition, due to a lack of funds, UIDC had made no progress in developing a comprehensive plan for the site.

The final product incorporated a financing scheme for UIDC based on site and building design for the neighborhood. The building designs were presented as examples of a set of design guidelines for eventual construction. Those design guidelines included a flexible, phased development that included sustainable features such as solar orientation, passive cooling, and modular construction.
